Mission Possible: PHAR Secures Sixt’s First Installation At A UK Airport

The 11 million passengers travelling through Terminal 1 at Manchester Airport have a breathtaking new installation to grab their attention as they pass through the international departures lounge, in a deal put together by PHAR on behalf of Manchester Airport.

A life-sized aluminium replica Mercedes Benz, surrounded by 3-D puppets, has been suspended from the central rotunda skylight, an installation that took 5 nights to complete.

The activity is completed by a takeover of the Wavy Wall running the length of the departure lounge, covered in Sixt’s orange branding and bearing the tagline “It’s a deal. It’s a steal.”

This unmissable installation has already garnered substantial media coverage for Sixt, as well as a steady flow of social media posts as passengers stop to admire and smile at the Mercedes-Benz hanging over their heads.

Per Vögerl, Managing Director of SIXT UK, commented: “At SIXT we stand for creative and exceptional airport advertising. We try to stick in people’s minds by advertising at extraordinary locations at airports.”

Alastair Macdonald, Managing Director of PHAR, added: “Sixt is well known for its audacious and highly creative installations at airports across Europe. We spent a lot of time with the team at Sixt exploring potential opportunities to do something outstanding at the airport and are proud and delighted they have chosen Manchester as the location for their first installation at a UK airport.”

On the afternoon of January 12, 2020, Taal volcano erupted. Loud rumbling sounds were felt and heard from the volcano island. By 7PM same day, the Philippines Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised the alert status to Alert Level 4 after activities intensified as the volcano spewed ash 10 to 15 kilometers into the air, indicating a “hazardous explosive eruption” in the near future. Ashfall from the volcano was experienced in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and reached as far as Metro Manila and Pampanga. Delays and cancellation of flights at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) soon followed suit.

In an effort to show support and solidarity to families affected by the recent activities of the volcano, PHAR Philippines partnered with Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) on two relief missions in Batangas and Cavite.

PHAR Philippines Gives Back With City of Manila Office

Santa Ana, Manila – there’s something else everyone looked forward to on this particular Friday other than the usual after office dinners and drinking sessions.

On December 13, 2019, PHAR Philippines employees made their way to Margarita Roxas de Ayala Elementary School to share smiles, play games, and spread holiday cheer with the kids of Manila! Christmas season is meant for kids (and kids at heart) anyway, so who better to make happy than giddy and excited 6 to 7 year olds? 😄

Stop dance session with everyone!

“The core of PHAR’s business is nation building and our mission goes beyond the improvement of the transport systems. We partner with the local government and brands with the aim of improving commute thus making daily life a little bit easier for the members of the community most especially around the rail systems that we handle. We extend our services and partnerships to CSR activities to help these communities and foster more meaningful relationships.” says Thessa Verano, PHAR Philippines General Manager

Thanks to generous Client and Partner sponsors that provided food, beverages, sweet treats, and toys, PHAR Philippines in partnership with the City of Manila Office was able to collectively give out 300 loot bags to first and second graders of the aforementioned public school.

PHAR Partnerships was appointed in  2017 as PAL’s ancillary revenue partner to develop and monetize PAL’s assets across multiple platforms, including in-flight entertainment, on-board activations, data-led digital advertising, and airport lounge advertising amongst others.

Under the multi-year agreement, Smart will provide Smart PAL Travel SIMs to international passengers of select flights arriving at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, Clark International Airport, Cebu International Airport, Caticlan Airport, and Davao International Airport.

The program partnership was launched on December 12, 2019 at the arrival lobby of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, with PAL, Smart, MIAA officials, PHAR, and program partners in attendance.

“The engagement between PAL and Smart is the essence of a true partnership, which delivers customer delight on one hand, while focusing on ROI on the other. We are thrilled to have put the companies together in this landmark deal,” said PHAR Managing Director Prem Bhatia

“We are happy to work with the country’s flag carrier in ensuring that our international visitors have access to the Philippines’ fastest network while they are traveling around the country,” said Manuel V. Pangilinan, PLDT chairman and CEO

"Philippine Airlines is delighted to forge a program partnership with Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) as it enables our travelers to experience the benefits of a local SIM card --- convenient connectivity and saving on hefty roaming charges.  We look forward to sustaining this worthwhile collaboration," said PAL President and COO Gilbert Santa Maria

“With this agreement, our friends from other countries who are visiting our islands can share their travel experiences while on-the-go using the Smart PAL Travel SIM on the Smart LTE network that we have put in place across the country,” said Alfredo S. Panlilio, PLDT Chief Revenue Officer and Smart President and CEO

Smart, Sun and TNT subscribers can look forward to exclusive seat sales and other promos, as well as free access to PAL’s hotline, website and app.

PAL passengers will also enjoy exclusive discounts and promos from Smart which will be announced inflight through the inflight entertainment, PAL boarding passes and the Mabuhay Lounges.

Soon after the partnership was announced, a "Grand OFW Salubong" was held at the same venue (arrival lobby of Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1). As passengers from Riyadh and Doha stepped into T-1's arrival lobby, PAL and Smart officials distributed premium items.

The event was capped by a mini concert by Asia's Songbird Regine Velasquez to the delight of returning  OFWs.

PHAR Partnerships has promoted country head of Malaysia, Indran Balavishnu, to the Regional Head of Malaysia and Indonesia. One of Balavishnu’s main focuses in 2020 is to develop PHAR Indonesia into the leading ancillary revenue partner in the transport, infrastructure and leisure sectors via marketing and media partnerships, while continuing the growth of PHAR in Malaysia.

Balavishnu, alongside the Indonesia team, will be working on new opportunities to extend and expand PHAR’s media assets in Indonesia aggressively next year. This includes exploring opportunities with Indonesia’s public transportations, local airlines and airports.

As well as this, he is also tasked with helping Indonesia clients and brands achieve their marketing goals and business expansion plans, leveraging on PHAR’s extensive regional network that is centred on a unique integrated travel and transport marketing solutions.

“I can see there’s a lot potential for PHAR to grow in Indonesia, the largest economy in Southeast Asia. The country has charted impressive economic growth since overcoming the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s. Aligning with our business goal is to be a part of Asian growth story and to help build the cities we live in, especially across Transport and Infrastructure. It is now time for us to focus on Indonesia market and grow together with them” says Indran Balavishnu.
